Getting their season off to a strong start, the Jaguars proved too good at Duke Of Kent Oval.
A couple of “soft” goals handed them a 3-0 advantage at the break and skipper Adrian Merrigan was thrilled by how they kicked off 2018 after a disappointing year last season.
“It is a great way to start the season,” Merrigan said.
“The best way to start the season and it was a good win.”
Merrigan was pleased by the energy the side brought to contest.
It enabled them to get on top and were able to consolidate the early pressure on the scoreboard.
“We had a lot of energy to start the first half and we took advantage of it,” Merrigan said.
“There was a couple of soft goals there and it probably would have been a tighter affair if they didn’t go in so we can’t get too overconfident for the next game.”
Ethan Sainbsury was strong on the wing while Jake Crowder and Hayden Boucher were good down back.
It was an unhappy homecoming for Weir and his brother Travis, who is coaching United this season.
Meanwhile Tolland scored a 3-1 win over Leeton United.
The Wolves were up 3-0 at half-time with Nick Tsipiras one of the standouts.
Young also took a 1-0 win over South Wagga on Saturday night.
The Warriors will be looking to bounce back against the Jaguars next week while Wagga United tackles Henwood Park.
Tumut and Tolland do battle, Young hosts Lake Albert while the clash between Leeton United and Cootamundra will complete round two.
