Despite never having performed stand-up comedy before entering the competition, Elliott said it was a fantastic experience.
“My opening jokes were about me having social anxiety, and about this being something I've always wanted to do but also being the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done,” Elliot said.
“There are some fantastic things about social anxiety that are really hilarious, so there's no reason to block that off from the world of comedy!”
When Elliott found out he was going to the NSW state finals, he couldn’t believe it.
“They called my name and I almost cried – I'd never really won anything before, and it didn't really hit me until I was on the plane to Sydney,” he said.
“It was a bit surreal going onto a stage where I couldn't see anyone in the audience, but it was also a bit nice, because I didn't have anyone to worry about.”
Elliott said he has since become hooked on comedy was looking forward to performing more and more stand-up comedy now that he had conquered his fears of getting on stage.
”I want to continue with comedy – I really enjoy performing generally, and I want to write more songs and more comedy songs.”
