The return of the two-time league medallist is a heart-warming one for the club, and coach Shane Lenon was delighted to confirm the news.
“We’re absolutely rapt to have him back. When you mention Marrar, the Langtry name goes hand-in-hand. His old man’s the president and with the centenary year, it’s huge,” Lenon said.
“I think it’s great that he’s coming back to the club where it all started and I’m excited to coach him – he’s a quality player.”
Langtry, 30, last played for the club in 2015, making seven appearances (featuring in their best in five of them). He won two Clear Medals in his previous two seasons in the Farrer League, in 2010 and 2011.
He sees this return as an opportunity to be part of something special.
"To have the opportunity to play for my home club again is something that excites me and to do it in such a special year is something I will cherish and be grateful for,” Langtry said.
"I'm looking forward to playing a part in an already successful side and being a part of the community again.”
The Melbourne-based Langtry won’t play every game but Lenon said he will play four of their first six, including the season-opener against Temora.
The midfielder was best-and-fairest at his club, Doutta Stars, last year despite missing five games and is a key addition to the premiers’ roster.
Marrar’s final pre-season hit-out will be against Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong on Thursday.
