More than 10 patients from across the Riverina aided 54 doctors from Australia and New Zealand in a series of training stations as Wagga showcased its potential as a training ground for rehabilitation specialists.
Calvary doctor and rehabilitation specialist Rachael McQueen said the training was designed to educate and promote.
“We saw there was a gap in our training and these kinds of programs are filling it,” she said.
“We also wanted to promote rural medicine and rural rehabilitation training so that more doctors come to the area.”
Dr McQueen spent 10 weeks in Wagga as a junior doctor and believes the city could be a medical hub.
“It’s about being able to provide for new doctors. If they don’t train here in the first place, they’ll never know how good it is,” she said.
