We wish, as a group, to thank The Daily Advertiser for having the courage and conviction to publish such an article (Easter feature The reason for the season) given our very secular culture and frequent quite negative attitudes towards faith, and committed Christian faith in particular. Generally it was helpful, positive and clear.

Had we been writing the article, we probably would have tried to express some aspects of Christ’s life, death and mission a bit differently, and in even clearer and more forthright terms.
Especially, rather than focusing just on Jesus’ self-sacrifice, we would probably have liked to emphasise more his willingness to obey the Father and act in accordance with his will. He did indeed speak much about happiness and blessings, but also woes; mercy and wrath; salvation and judgement, etc. He was, as prophesied by Isaiah, “a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief”. He became in his own words “a ransom for many”. He marvellously, through the power of the Spirit overcame, conquering sin and death and the grave. Through Christ we can have hope that the world cannot give.
What a reason to celebrate! Good News! Amazing Grace!
Thank you again for attempting to draw this to the attention of your readers, even urging us to “seek Jesus” afresh.

Be loud, be vocal
In the Area News on March 21, Dick Smith backed a ‘Be loud, be vocal, be local’ campaign.
There is a group of us who want to continue to do exactly that. Among the group are some who want to form a branch of Katter Australia Party if KAP agree to some key policy details including:
1. Plans to save the Darling River by seeking legislation to return water to the Macintyre River and to have immediate over allocation of water to Cubbie Station flowing into the Barwon/Darling.
2. Halt the pipeline to Broken Hill while the accepted losses will still allow the allocated budget to accept the losses, replace the aging pipeline from Menindee to Broken Hill and still have lots of funds left over. Just some of the reasons for this are
a. The MDBA system is such that water taken out of the Murray will be compensated by that same volume being taken from the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA).
b. When I attended the blockade of the pipeline in Wentworth there were many who believe that the diameter of the pipe is sufficient to supply Broken Hill and to supply the needs of a plant to process the huge deposit of iron ore near the South Australian border which is not a part of the Broken Hill ore body. If larger pumps are needed later they can be added.
3. The Face Book group Katter Australia Party – Barwon.’ Featured Glass-Steagall as the only solution to Australia’s banking problem. Some of us believe that the $35 trillion derivatives bubble of the Big Four can never be eliminated. Some of us know that the banks need to borrow from overseas which is almost certain to allow J P Morgan , HSBC and Citigroup to increase their 40% ownership leading to their full control. Some of us hope that the Government will do as they did about 100 years ago and form a Government bank which will not be permitted to deal in toxic derivatives.
A representative of the group is prepared to engage in a public debate.
