Residents from Wagga’s Afghan, Yazidi, Burmese, Indian, and Pakistani communities met at Bolton Park for a day of kite-flying and volleyball.
Event coordinator Belinda Crane said the day was well-supported and much-loved.
“We received funding from Multicultural NSW and ran this day in conjunction with our multicultural groups in Wagga,” she said.
“This was the biggest sporting day we’ve had.”
Ms Crane has headed the Multicultural Council for 10 years and believes such events are crucial for the city.
”It’s such a great event and everyone loves coming down.”
There’s also an increased push for Wagga’s multicultural community to improve and refine their swimming abilities.
“We run sessions at the pool on a regular basis and we’re hoping to have taught 450 new residents how to swim by the time our program is done,” Ms Crane said.
