The Pomingalarna Park initiative, which includes a 1.8 kilometre criterium track, a velodrome track with lights and an international standard BMX track, has now been listed as a primary project under the Destination Riverina Murray management plan.
DRM was established by the state government in 2017 as the body responsible for the growth of the region’s visitor economy.

Paul Johanson, the convenor for the independent group pushing for the project, said he had not formally been made aware of the project’s listing as a ‘priority’ but welcomed the news.
“We found out on Wednesday March 21 that the project had been announced and we’re pretty pleased,” he said.
“For us to be listed as a tourism centre is very exciting.”
Wagga City Council strategic planner Ben Creighton said DRM engaged with council when developing the management plan and provided information on the Pomingalarna Park project.
“An expression of interest was submitted under the Regional Sport Infrastructure Fund for project implementation,” Mr Creighton said.
“Council has now been invited to prepare a detailed business case for consideration under the revised 2018 Regional Growth - Sport Infrastructure Fund.”
Project implementation will be subject to the receipt of grant funding and environmental measures.
“The REF identified a number safeguards and mitigation measures that would be implemented during the detailed design, construction and operational phases of the project,” he said.
