Calvary doctor and rehabilitation specialist Rachael McQueen said orthotics can be used to manage all sorts of medical conditions.
“After people have a stroke, a spinal cord injury, or cerebral palsy, they often need an orthodic as part of their rehabilitation,” Dr McQueen said.
“We're fortunate enough in Wagga to have an orthotic clinic, but a lot of metro hospitals don’t have one, so training programs can be limited.”
The conference will showcase Wagga as a leader in medical rehabilitation and hopefully draw more doctors to the region.
“We are keen to show people that rehabilitation can be done outside a metropolitan place, and that patients actually have rehabilitation needs that need to be addressed locally,” she said.
“The other thing we want to do is to really showcase Wagga as a great place to live, and we've got the conference coinciding with the Food and Wine Festival so people can have a great Saturday night as well.”
