Emergency services were called to the dual carriageway around 5.40am after receiving reports a truck had collided with a stationary one near Tabletop, around 16 kilometres south of Albury.
When police from the Murray River Police District arrived, they found one truck ablaze. Reinforcements from Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire soon after.
Emergency services spent more than 12 hours at the site, with the salvage operation stretching late into the afternoon.
All four lanes were completely open shortly before 8pm.
The 53-year-old driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Albury Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
No one was in the stationary truck when the crash occurred, police say, and a crime scene has been established as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the dual carriageway were closed off after the collision, with no diversions in place until around 7am.
By 7.30am, northbound traffic was moving through the one reopened lane, while the road remained closed southbound.
Diversions in place sent southbound traffic along the Olympic Highway, Gerogery Road, Wagga Road and Thurgoona Drive before returning to the Hume Highway.
