Lily Crocker and Emma Scott, both 16, and Natarsha O’Leary, 15, were there last year, while Annabelle Wilkinson, 14, is new to the ‘state’ squad. Southern NSW joins with ACT for nationals, but Wagga dominates the squad of six, with just two Canberra bowlers selected.
The Wagga quartet warmed up with strong performances at the ACT state championships last month, competing against adults as well as juniors.
Crocker (averaging 175) had a win, two seconds and a fourth; Scott (avg 178) had a first, second, third and a sixth; O’Leary (avg 146) enjoyed a second, third, fourth and fifth placing; and Wilkinson (avg 153) had a first, two seconds and a seventh.
O’Leary also turned heads at a recent ‘mid-country’ series competition in Orange, breaking a 30-year lane record when she had a 259 game. She had also had a 231 the previous day.
However, representing at nationals doesn’t come cheap. Faced with costs of around $1700 each for the trip to Frankston in the school holidays, the group will be holding a fundraiser at Bunnings on Sunday March 18.
