Newly-named Wagga City Wanderers captain Rob Fry is hoping he can lead the team to its best season yet in the New South Wales State League competition.

Ready to lead from the back, the Wanderers goalkeeper said it will be an honour to wear the captain’s armband, in his third season playing state league.
“Stoked. Privileged, really,” Fry said.
“I don’t think it’ll change the way I act on the pitch, to be fair. I’m normally pretty vocal and try to set a good example.”
Fry was a member of Junee’s Pascoe Cup-winning team in 2015 and had previously played with Lake Albert.
His appointment marks another change for the Wanderers, who head into the 2018 season under a new coach, Ross Morgan.
“It’'s unreal, everyone’s really excited and there’s a bit of a buzz at training,” Fry said. “The new gaffer has come in and given us his ideas… Playing good, attractive footy (is the aim).
“Personally I guess, to try to cause some upsets and make life difficult for teams to come out to Wagga. Not to put too much pressure on ourselves but to hopefully go out and have our most successful season so far.”
It’s the Wanderers’ fourth year in state league. They ended up with the wooden spoon last year, with two wins. But in 2016, they enjoyed seven victories.
The Wanderers season kicks off on March 24 with a road trip to Sydney to tackle the Western Condors.
Their first home game is on April 7, against Hurstville City Minotaurs.
