One of three VIEW groups in Wagga, the club’s 34 members are hoping to convince other women to join them.
VIEW clubs were created in 1960 by George Forbes, who was at the time the general secretary of The Smith Family.
The goal was to create an organisation that helped raise valuable funds for The Smith Family, while also providing a valuable social network for women.
Members Claire Ploog, Dianne Smith and Sue Forbes said their club currently sponsors four children through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program, which provides assistance for 34,000 disadvantaged Australian students each year.
Mrs Forbes said members welcomed the opportunity to assist The Smith Family, but also enjoyed being able to catch up with other members, enjoy a meal and hear from guest speakers.
As part of the wider VIEW organisation, members were able to have their say on issues of national importance to women, Mrs Ploog said.
“It’s rewarding to be part of it,” Mrs Forbes said.
The club meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Wagga RSL Club, with meetings followed by lunch and the chance to hear a guest speaker.
