Cub Scout District Commissioner and ‘ringmaster’ Mick O’Shea said more than 130 cubs, 50 older scouts and 50 helpers attended the camp which ran from Friday to yesterday afternoon.
He said it was the first time in many years Scouts from both NSW and Victoria had joined together.
“Bringing together children from both sides of the border is great because especially for children from smaller towns like Myrtleford, it gives children exposure to a range of other children with different activities,” Mr O’Shea said.
“Australian Scouting is starting to be a national organisation, we’re heading towards a national program so it makes it easier for those on the Border.
“Cub Scouts are accustomed to camping in tents, and this weekend they unleashed their imagination to experience the magic of the biggest, most exciting tent of all, the big top.”
Scouts learned the arts of circus entertainment including juggling, the traipse, and tight rope walking.
Mr O’Shea said the camp also featured a sideshow alley with face painting, throwing games and fire-stick twirling, which was a favourite with many of the children.
“It gives children the chance to do things they’d otherwise never have the chance to do from archery to rock climbing to the flying fox,” he said.
“One of the benefits of Scouts and the camp is it gives children a fun space and they’re fully supported.
“No matter what your background you’re always welcome at Scouts so it helps children build confidence.”
