“With Australia’s youth unemployment rate reaching 12.1 per cent, while we’re simultaneously facing a national skills shortage across a range of industries, we encourage young people to consider all the available career options,” Mr Gilchrist said.
“The completion of an apprenticeship or traineeship in one of the areas affected by the shortage—like automotive, health, childcare, engineering, or education—is a viable way for young people to gain a nationally recognised qualification while getting valuable work experience and avoid joining the growing number of young unemployed and underemployed people.
“A strong ATAR is not necessarily a guarantee of future success; it’s more important for young people to follow their passions.
“When we are doing something that aligns with our strengths, skills and passions we have a higher level of wellbeing and are more likely to succeed in building a successful career,” Mr Gilchrist said.
