The Payback event at Chiltern’s Telegraph Hotel on February 17, saw a steady stream of Mr Duke’s supporters donating time, money and heart-felt support to the man who has helped so many in his community.
Pub manager Renae Lappin said it was incredible to see so many parts of the town unite for a great cause.
Such was the level of enthusiasm for supporting one of their own, items such as a single chop and a single sausage were raffled off for $240.
A large donation came from the Nordcon Group but the generosity was spread across “every facet” of Mr Duke’s life from locals to work mates and all those who have benefitted from his volunteer efforts, according to Ms Lappin.
The shearing competition, supported by Chiltern Lions Club, was won by Robert Phibbs (judge Greg Eames).
Mr Duke, who put on a brave front to be present at the fundraiser, gave a short speech thanking everyone for their support.
Funds raised will help offset some of the costs associated with the popular cowboy’s immunotherapy treament to fight the cancer that has taken hold in his liver and one kidney.
