Superoo ($8.50) overcame the outside barrier to win the Wagga Country Cottages Benchmark 55 Handicap (1000m) impressively by two lengths.
It was the six-year-old’s first run since finishing down the track in a Highway Handicap at Rosehill in June.
Colvin said he will now sit down and try and map a path to the Championships heat at Wagga on March 4.
“He’s a good horse and it’s taken a bit to get him right,” Colvin said.
“I’ll probably have to pick out one more run for him. We’ve got to try and qualify.”
Colvin had originally pencilled in a Benchmark 55 Handicap over 1300m for Superoo next, but will now reassess his plans.
He was guided to victory by Bryan Murphy in what was a top ride. Superoo, is a half brother to Zatigeroo.
Colvin’s number one Championships contender, Forever Newyork, will contest the Highway Handicap at Warwick Farm on Saturday. Murphy will also take the ride there.
