Octopuses Pink have fallen agonisingly short in their bid to knock off ladder-leading Dolphins in A-grade water polo.
Pink fell to Dolphins 5-4 at Oasis on Tuesday night.
Down 5-3 at three quarter time, Pink inched within one goal on the back of a David Barrett breakthrough.
But they ran out of time to find the equaliser.
Dolphins captain Shaun Bennett and young gun Kolby McMahon both scored twice for the victorious side.
Octopuses Black and the Raiders then played out the second one-goal thriller of the night, with the Raiders prevailing 8-7.
Black finished strong to win the fourth quarter 2-0, but it wasn’t quite enough to get the job done.
The Raiders’ de Jong brothers combined for five goals, Will scoring three and Doug with two.
Rex Gallaher fought valiantly in defeat for Black, finishing with four goals and even spacing them out nicely with one in each quarter.
