Five more government jobs in Wagga are to go, with an announcement by NSW Agriculture that its administrative operations will be rationalised. The move spelled the end of 19 payment centres across the state, dropping from 23 to four.
In a dramatic move, NSW Police Minister Paul Whelan has put a stop to the review of policing currently being conducted in five small Riverina towns. The veto may rescue one-man police stations at Urana, Berrigan, Rand, Walla and Henty, all threatened with closure under the review.

Turvey Tavern owners were furious at three vandalism attacks in eight days that cost the business thousands. “We have got to get through to people what is happening in this area,” Gavin Grant said. “People are being terrorised by juveniles and no one’s doing anything about it. The latest loutish behaviour – when would-be thieves smashed in newly-installed security doors – brought the damage bill to almost $8000.
