With picnic rugs and popcorn at the ready, outdoor cinema screenings have gripped the Riverina as a fun night out for all ages.
After 10 years in the business, Movies By Moonlight owner Matthew Canny now has high hopes of creating something more permanent during the Summer season, as its popularity continues to grow.
“Wagga has so many beautiful parks and gardens, we are really spoiled for choice of where we can do it,” he said.
“We are in the process of organising things and have spoken to council about putting more free ones around the city and a permanent season for Wagga.”
Mr Canny said he was applying for grants in 2019, due to public demand.
“My wife and I used to live in Sydney and would frequent them all the time,” he said.
“It’s nice to turn off the mobile phones and sit outside after a busy week, particularly in summer to watch a movie under the stars.”
Borambola Wines have now jumped on the movement, hosting an outdoor cinema screening of Eat, Pray Love on February 9.
Marketing and events manager Casey Wilson said she was expecting 100 to 150 people to attend the screening.
“We ran one last year and it was really popular so we thought we’d do it again as a feel good night before Valentine’s Day,” she said.
“I think a permanent outdoor cinema season would be really good, anything extra in Wagga is always great to see.”
Harry Mangelsdorf will be playing in the gardens at Borambola Wines from 6pm with the movie set to kick off at dusk.
A general admission adult ticket with a Borambola drink of choice will cost $25, with the inclusion of a return bus for an extra $5.
Children under 18 are free but a spot on the return bus will cost $5.
