New chairs, new carpet, new furniture and a brand new addition for the balcony are on the cards for Wagga’s premier arts precinct.
The Civic Theatre is currently undergoing a $700,000 makeover – the biggest renovation since 2000 – and theatre manager Carissa Campbell can hardly contain her enthusiasm.
“The new chairs coming in are so comfortable and we’re installing a retractable roof on the balcony,” she said.
“And there’s all new furniture going in the foyer – it’s a very exciting time for us.”
It’s a far cry from the stiff-seated Civic Theatre of yesteryear – anyone remember when it looked like this?
Four more seats will be added to the theatre with space for widened seats and Ms Campbell has a special plan for the discarded seating.
“The School of Arts downstairs will receive a few of the older chairs and CSU will be getting some too,” she said.
“We’re trying to recycle the rest but those chairs have lasted us a really long time – they’re only supposed to last ten years.”
The theatre will reopen on March 29 with a free concert and residents will have the opportunity to inspect all areas of the precinct.
