Rain has played havoc at Southern Districts meetings of late but the forecast is very positive and the track is rated a soft 5.
Despite a month between his last win at Wagga, Sutherland believes the seven-year-old is well suited as the top weight in the Stuart Gordon Landscaping Benchmark 52 Handicap (2000m).
He will charge 60 kilograms, but has drawn well with barrier three.
“It’s a very nice race for him,” Sutherland said.
“It is 2000 metres and it has been a month between runs so it will be good.”
Sutherland has a horse in each of the six races and also likes Lightning Alert’s chances coming off three placings.
“He has drawn well and will be there for a long time,” he said.
“He likes the 900 metres and from a nice gate he will certainly be in the finish.”
