Inaugural Griffith Base Hospital Excellence in Nursing awards on Thursday

The outstanding work of Griffith nursing staff Mel Blunden, Julie Henderson, Kylie Coleman, Libby Flood, Suzanne McKelvie, Nyatwa MacKenzie and Di Maruskanic were recognised at the inaugural Griffith Base Hospital Excellence in Nursing awards on Thursday

Nursing peers nominated their work colleagues for different sections of the six award categories:

Registered Nurse, Team Excellence, Excellence in Leadership, Midwifery, Enrolled Nurse and Graduate Nurse/Student Midwife Award.

All nurses, described as ‘unsung heroes’ at the ceremony, celebrated the awards with morning tea and a celebratory cake.

Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Meredith Whittaker, said she was extremely pleased to read all the nominations and the lovely accolades written by the nurses regarding their work colleagues.

Ms Whittaker said all the winners and to all Griffith Base Hospital nurses who work very hard to provide excellent care to their patients.

She added that the awards will become a yearly event where staff are recognised and rewarded. 

Winners and categories were as follows:

Registered Nurse: Mel Blunden

Team Excellence: Emergency Department and Medical Ward (award accepted by Nyatwa MacKenzie and Di Maruskanic)

Excellence in Leadership: Julie Henderson

Midwifery: Kylie Coleman

Enrolled Nurse: Libby Flood

Graduate Nurse or Student Midwife Award: Suzanne McKelvie
