But Wagga Water Polo has a strict weather policy which dictates play must not take place when lightning is present, and when the flashes did not abate, organisers made the call to cancel play all together.
Wagga Water Polo president Amy Hazelwood said it was a disappointing outcome.
“It is a shame but there wasn’t much we could do about it,” she said.
“It’s also not something that you really anticipate, have that kind of weather in December.”
Octopuses Pink were scheduled to play Raiders, while Dolphins were set to meet Octopuses Black.
They will play for double points when they next meet.
