Four Wagga athletes are part of the ACT boys and girls teams in Brisbane.

Waratahs flyer Corey Toole is the lone boys representative while Biola Dawa, Sophie Kirkby and Sidonie Carroll are part of the girls team.

It was set to be five before Isabel Kirky was forced out of the team after suffering a head knock.

Coach Steve Sergeant said it was a tough call to make but after finishing fourth last year, the Wagga-based coach is gunning for another strong showing.

"I think we have a more rounded squad this year so I am hoping we can finish one or two in our pool, head into the semis on Sunday and see how we go from there,” Sergeant said.

The Riverina continues to develop players at a national level and with so much talent in the region Sergeant expects that will only continue.

“There is plenty of talent going through and particularly now that they have set up the Southern Sports Academy with sevens and 15s it gives that pathway for guys and girls to push through to Brumbies, improve their football and hoping go on to higher honours,” he said.

All five play in the Southern Inland competitions and Sergeant believes taking on older players is a real plus at the under 17s level.
