Work on the Cartwright’s Hill site was set to start on Friday, but little was done before the rain set in.
Ladex Constructions have the tender for the project and now managing director Richard Pottie expects little will be done until next week.
However Pottie didn’t believe the rain was all bad news.
“It had been pretty dry so we needed some rain on it,” Pottie said.
“We got about an hour in and then it started to rain.
“We’ve got about two weeks setting the site up and are hoping to have major gear in there before Christmas.”
Access to the site is the biggest concern with a drain currently filled with water blocking the entrance.
Harness Racing NSW chief executive John Dumesny was relieved the protracted process had come to an end.
“It is all happening,” Dumesny said.
“There is not a thing in the road or an issue we have to deal with.”
The officially opening on the track, which will cost over $6.5 million, is set down for December 2018.
Meanwhile harness racing returns to Wagga for the first time since October with an eight-race card on Tuesday.
The first race is at 6.10pm.
