A week after chasing Minderoo home at Wagga, Mareeba scored her first win on Friday night.
The writing was on the wall with a second last time out, and she used an inside box to her advantage.
After an even beginning, the Brian Smith-trained bitch had a battle to find the rails, but powered on strong to take a 2.5-length victory over Tilly Rockin'.
Smith was pleased to get another win on the board.
“She is still improving but has a lot to learn yet,” Smith said.
“These dogs have only just been broken in and haven’t been away.
“She has been in a field three times and this is her third time and keeps getting better.”
Mareeba clocked 18.86 seconds to take out the Wagga Tile Centre Maiden (320m).
Smith thought every race has been valued experience and expects she will really come into her own when racing at longer distances.
“She is not a brilliant beginner but is bred to get 500 (metres) later,” he said.
“When she gets a few more runs we will see if she can step up.
“Her mother was a good bitch, who won in the city.
“We will wait what happens in a few months.
