Police from Ganmain, Junee and Wagga executed a search warrant at 1.30pm on the premises and discovered the home-made device.
“Police have contacted the bomb disposal unit which was flying down this afternoon to render the device inoperable,” Wagga Inspector Robert Vergano said.
The house was unoccupied at the time of the search warrant, however, police were planning to speak to a 27-year-old Ganmain man about the explosives and bomb-making items.
Police said it wasn't deemed necessary to evacuate surrounding houses as the item was considered small.
