Babic, Lake Albert’s 2016 Pascoe Cup winning coach, said he was excited to get involved with the junior ranks after being confirmed as the club’s under 13s coach.
“I think I have a lot to offer for the younger players, in terms of experience and knowledge, and I really believe in the Wanderers academy,” he said.
“I was very keen to get involved with the development phase of football.”
Meanwhile, the Wanderers’ junior trials got underway at Gissing Oval on Tuesday night.
30 players tried out for the under 13 and 15 boys teams respectively.
Football Wagga development officer and under 14 boys coach Liam Dedini said it was a great outcome, which combined with early registrations for other age groups, suggested the club would have more youngsters trialing than ever for the upcoming season.
The numbers in the under 14 girls ranks in backs that up, with barely enough players to fill a team last season and 23 registrations for the 2018 team already in the books.
Dedini was credit by Babic as the primary reason behind the spike in numbers.
“No doubt it's due to the job Liam's doing as development officer,” Babic said.
“Him getting out to the schools and pushing for publicity is absolutely working.
“I’m sure word of mouth among the kids has played a role too.”
