The man had been drinking at an undisclosed location before getting behind the wheel. He was speeding at 80 kms/hour when he hit the other vehicle.
Emergency services and police attended the crash after 9.20pm on Saturday night, which completely destroyed both cars and took out a set of traffic lights.
Nobody was injured in the smash.
The driver was arrested and taken to Wagga station where he underwent a breath test returning a mid-range prohibited concentration of alcohol (PCA)
It’s his second PCA within five years.
The man was charged with a mid-range PCA, driving while suspended and reckless driving and will face Wagga Local Court on October 11.
“It’s very disappointing, obviously he’s a real danger to the public if he’s got that kind of attitude towards his driving,” Inspector Andrew Spliet said.
On Sunday morning, traffic was still being redirected at the intersection.
