A Senior Constable has been praised following a siege in Junee involving a man armed with a knife.

Police were called to a Junee home where an 18-year-old man was threatening to harm himself on Wednesday night about 10pm.
“Police responded immediately, engaged in negotiations for about an hour and were lucky enough to convince him to drop the knife that he was holding to his throat,” Wagga Acting Inspector Sergeant Maggie Deall said.
Junee Senior Constable Andrew Henderson was singled out as the officer who gained the man’s trust and avoided what could easily have been a tragedy.
“It was an excellent job, done in particular by Senior Constable Henderson from Junee police, we were very pleased with the results,” Sergeant Deall said.
The man was taken to Wagga Rural Referral Hospital for a mental health assessment.
Police say the incident was triggered most likely by alcohol.
“Unfortunately that’s quite common with mental health matters; alcohol and or drugs can initiate incidents like this,” Sergeant Deall said.
