Reserve grade slotted straight into the premiership match almost two weeks ago with a penalty shoot-out victory over Henwood Park. 

It is Henwood Park they will be facing this weekend in the decider and coach Joe Trifogli was expecting a tight tussle. 

United finished as runners-up in the Griffith competition last year. 

Should they bring home the title on Sunday it will be the first time for the team since 2004. 

It is also the first time Trifogli has guided a side to a grand final on his own after having done so with first grade under the tutelage of Mick Doolin in the past. 

“We’re keeping everything pretty low key,” Trifogli said. 

“We had a light training run on Tuesday and we’ll follow that up tonight (Thursday) with another session focusing a bit more on tactics and our game style. 

“We’ll get the ball moving, do some corner work and ust make sure everyone knows what their role will be.”

United and Henwood Park, along with Tolland, have been the main contenders in reserve grade all year. 

Their hard work throughout the season should hold them in good stead on Sunday. 

Trifogli said there were several key players who would no doubt be making a difference and will lift the younger brigade. 

“Andrew Luff is our leading goal scorer, so he’ll be hoping for a big match,” Trifogli said. 

“Dom Puntoriero in the middle will be crucial, while Frank and Daniel Alampi in the backline will also be critical. 

“Our goal keeper Anthony Mandaglio was fantastic against Henwood Park in that last game that went to a penalty shoot-out, so we’ll be counting on him again.”

Trifogli said it was important the team held their focus and got the job done. 

“I’m confident, but not over confident,” he said. “The boys are all keen to get out their and get the job done.”

The game will get underway in Wagga on Sunday from 1.20pm with supporters urged to attend.
