The author, who breeds Corriedale sheep with her husband Richard on their farm at Narrandera, drew on her personal knowledge and experiences of small communities in southern NSW as inspiration for the settings of Prodigal Daughter.
The novel revolves around a character named Diana Carter, who is returning to her family farm in southern NSW after living in London and having been absent for more than a year.
Ms Carter said the rural settings are based on a variety of places with which she is familiar and not one in particular.
Her first book, A Dream Of Something More, was published in 2009 followed by High Country Secrets in 2014.
Ms Carter has spent much of her adult life on farms, initially around Goulburn and Crookwell, and more recently Narrandera.
She began writing about 10 years ago, after her five children had grown up.
Ms Carter said part of her love of writing comes from a desire to preserve the characters and folklore that are a part of rural Australia.
Visitors to the Wagga library will have the opportunity to meet Ms Carter on September 21, from 5.30pm.
