Wagga High prevailed 3-1 to erase the painful memories of last year’s grand final loss to their old foes.
Jacob Ochieng opened the scoring to give Wagga High a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute, but MDCC equalised through captain Anthony Mason shortly after the break.
A classy brace from Dylan Shanahan within the last 15 minutes clinched the silverware for Wagga High.
“It was a great effort from the year 12 boys finishing up right through to our year 10s,” WHS captain and man of the match Kyle Yeates said.
Mater Dei’s girls exorcised some demons of their own, avenging last year’s grand final loss to Kooringal.
With scores locked at 1-1 at full-time, MDCC prevailed on penalties.
In regulation, Kooringal’s Sophie Crouch drew first blood before Mater Dei’s Brooke Gayler equalised.
Meanwhile, South Wagga downed Mater Dei in both the girls and boys Sydney FC Cup grand finals.
