Two fire trucks were at the scene and at least three emergency service fire brigade members rushed upstairs to the district courtroom.
Wagga Court staff confirmed the incident was not a drill as the public were evacuated.
The call came after a fire alarm, according to fire station officer Justin Bentley.
“We received an automatic fire alarm this morning during a court proceeding,” he said.
“There was nothing going on. There was just dust from the air conditioning works.
“Crews quickly ascertained that, cleared the area and reset, allowing the court to reopen.”
The general public has been allowed back into the court.
