Barb Konstantakis used to work at a housing complex and said she saw a “challenge” in taking on the Red Steer Hotel as licensee.
“I was working at Quest Apartments, managing there, and my job was to build the business,” she said.
“Then this came up and I honestly thought, why not? Let’s go run a pub.
“I saw the venue advertised on Facebook and thought it was time to move on with my old job.
“My partner and I know it doesn’t have the best history but we want to restore the place to its former glory.”
No structural work or renovations will be carried out on the site, Ms Konstantakis said, but there will be a thorough clean out to freshen the place up.
“We’re taking it very slowly at the moment and just going day-by-day,” she said.
“We’re going to keep it as is and just give it a really good clean out.
“We just want it to be a good old-fashioned pub that the locals can come to.”
