According to Nathalie Prentice, the team leader for accommodation at the centre, there are currently more than 105,000 people in Australia currently experiencing homelessness, many of whom may be stigmatised by the community.
Beginning at 11am, the shelter will have an assortment of men and women’s clothing available to anyone who wants them. The barbecue will begin at noon.
“An event like this is a first for us,” Ms Prentice said.
Ms Prentice said the shelter would welcome donations of any items to go towards the barbecue.
Donations of blankets were also always welcome, particularly so at this time of the year, she said.
