Both Sir Ottavio and Mr Sommerville will line up for their shot at NSW’s longest race at Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Tuesday.
Sutherland is happy with how both come into the race.
“Both are fit, both are well and while it is very hard to get any form on it, you have nothing really, I’m confident my two will run it out,” Sutherland said
Top weight Sir Ottavio comes into the race with by far the better form.
He’s been placed in his last three starts, including a narrow second in the prelude last time out.
Sir Ottavio has been handed a massive weight for the long staying test, lumped with 61 kilograms by the handicapper.
Canberra apprentice Patrick Scorse, coming off a double at Canberra on Friday, will take four kilos off his back, meaning he actually meets prelude winner Thunder Road three kilos better off this time around.
“This bloke will get into his rhythm and I am going into it pretty confident,” Sutherland said. “I don’t want to be swapping for anything else.”
With the track currently a heavy 9, Sutherland is hoping it doesn’t get any worse for Mr Sommerville’s chances, who hasn’t been placed since winning the Carrathool Cup 10 starts ago.
Sutherland also has Gentleman Max looking for a hat-trick later on the card.
