Had a good night and after settling for my room, 6/6, went out and collected some prints ready at Kodak’s and to have a photo taken. Finished up at Neames in Bond St. where they took me in four positions. About 1 o’clock had lunch at a Dairy shop near Marble Arch, after which I decided to go through Hyde Park to the Mall to see the captured German guns and planes there exhibited. Took a couple of snaps with the camera and watched the youngsters having a great time playing with the guns.
Next visited the Services Museum in Whitehall where are numerous exhibits of things mixed up the present war and previous ones. One exhibit was of a pigeon which had been shot whilst flying from the trenches at Ypres to its loft. The message carrier had been driven into its body and the bullet passing right through, yet the bird managed to reach home and died next day.
A very interesting place. Had dinner at The Waverley, interesting conversation with an Ulsterman, and afternoon tea at The Popular with a Flying Corps Man and Damsel and heard a great tale of the doings during Armistice week, the whole fun at this place being started by a certain crowd of Australians who set the ball rolling each night. Caught the 8.40 p.m. at Euston for Glasgow arriving next day at 9.30, the train being full of soldiers. A little rain during the day, but fairly fine.
