After caring for her father for 18 months and watching how cancer has the ability to tear a family apart, Ms Carlisle decided to try her hand at volunteering.
At a breakfast for Wagga’s Country Hope, Ms Carlisle sat in the back and found herself in tears, listening to the stories of struggling families.
“Not only were these families dealing with the devastation of this happening to a child but they didn’t get any of the things I had to treat Dad,” she said.
Now in her fourth year of volunteering for the annual Time Out For Life holiday camp, Ms Carlisle has encouraged others to respond to a desperate call out for help.
“You see these children who are going through so much heartache but are still laughing and having fun, it puts your problems in perspective,” Ms Carlisle said.
