The 22-year-old was welding at his home on Calleen Street on Friday when, for reasons unknown, the project blew up in his face.
Emergency services rushed to the home after 10pm and treated the man for serious head and hand injuries.
Griffith police inspector Kim Traynor said no further investigation was necessary.
Paramedics took the man to hospital, where he was later flown to Royal North Shore. He remains in a serious condition.
