More rain and cold. Made up my requisition for the Battalions and went out after dinner with Capt. McGlashan who wanted to go to Divisional H.Q’rs. Went via Peronne but the bridge being out of service we had to cross the Somme at Hern passing through Clery. Peronne is sadly damaged but has been a fine town with wall surrounding.
Shops and all had German signs up but gangs of men were rapidly making everything shipshape, a lot of salvage being about. Reached Division at Fortaine les Cappy, where the A.D.M.S. signed my requisition and learnt that VH. our W.O. had his commission. R.L.K. to W.O., H.C. to W.O. at Dartford, 3 promotions in my unit. Went on to Chuignolles to No. 18 advanced Med. Depot and collected my requirements, then home by Amiens - St.Quentin Rd. a cold and wet trip, reaching camp about 6.30. Bridges slightly improved over Somme but still insufficient for traffic, the delay caused by the large number required, no less than 5 on this road.
