At North Wagga Public School, kindergarten students made paper hats, while stewards at the turf club, called off races because of the wet weather.

The Bureau of Meteorology had predicted massive downpours for the region as a result of a massive “rain band” that stretched the length of the nation, but only 15mm fell in Wagga on Friday.

The western district bore the brunt of the rain, with 42mm falling at Hay – one-and-a-half times the monthly average – in 24 hours. 

Hillston copped 34mm of rain, while 19mm soaked fields around Griffith.

But showers eased off as they moved west, with only a few drops felt around Cootamundra, Gundagai and Tumbarumba.

Thankfully for sports fans and families alike, the Bureau of Meteorology has forecast easing showers for Wagga on Saturday and Sunday before sunny skies on Monday.
