Wagga City Wanderers coach Ben Schmid and Football Wagga development officer Liam Dedini will gain an insider’s view of Sydney FC in the week leading up to the match, starting Thursday.
“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, an opportunity not many people get,” Schmid said.
“I’m keen to see how everything works at the top level, take as much in as possible.”
Schmid and Dedini don’t know much about what they’re in for, they do know they’ll attend training sessions and the match at Sydney Olympic Park.
The experience was arranged in the Football Wagga-Sydney FC partnership deal.
While they’re there, Wagga City Wanderers play Hurstville City Minotaurs at St George Stadium at 3pm on Sunday.
“They’re coming sixth, they’ve had some good results, they will be tough,” Schmid said.
“We’ll be competitive, we just have to stop leaking goals.”
The Wanderers, eighth from 10 state league teams, have let in 15 goals.
While Schmid won’t have to worry about travel this week, the rest of the team will leave Wagga at 4am, to be there for the under 18’s match at 11am.
