The Lee and Anthony Freedman stable continued their amazing carnival as Exocet ($3.30) claimed the $80,000 Audi Centre Wagga 3YO MTC Guineas – Benchmark 69 Handicap (1600m).
The Freedman yard were two from two on Town Plate day, including the feature sprint, and continued their brilliant run with victory in the main supporting race on Gold Cup day.
Exocet, a three-year-old Smart Missile filly, edged out Lord Kingsley ($8.50) by a neck, with the David Blundell-trained Itsa Fait Accompli ($21.00) a further short half head away in third.
The Freedman stable’s racing manager, Brad Taylor, was happy to win a third race at the carnival.
“We’re not complaining,” he said.
“We were aided by a gun ride there, the ride won the race.
“She wouldn’t go between runners last start at Sandown when she finished fourth, so we said to Tommy, getting to the outside is the main thing and it came up a gem.
“As Tommy said, it took the whole straight for her to get there but the last couple of hundred metres she hit the line really well.”
Berry was pleased to get the job done, and win his third race for the carnival.
“The whole thing was getting off the fence,” Berry said.
“She’s a gutsy little thing and she knows where the post is, which is good.”
Wagga three-year-old Forever Newyork, trained by Gary Colvin, ran sixth and was only beaten a length after having a tough run.
