Cootamundra trainer George Dimitropoulos was set to race the gelding at Corowa on Tuesday, but is he expected to be a scratching with the vet check looming to seal the deal.
Zakynthos Regrets won his first two races this preparation, including smashing the track record at Leeton, before finishing second in a Highway race in February.
The race helped one of Southern Districts’ most promising horse catch the eye of international buyers and he will undergo the vet examination on Wednesday.
While it would be a blow for Dimitropoulos, he believes it will be a fantastic opportunity for the Loukissas family who own the three-year-old.
“It is pretty exciting and it isn’t I suppose,” Dimitropoulous said. “You have to do what you have to do.
“He's got above average ability that is for sure.”
Corowa has a seven-race program with the first at 12.50pm.
Then attentions will turn to the Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Sunday.
Dimitropoulos will still nominate the gelding for the Town Plate Prelude.
He also has last start winner Neyla's Girl nominated for a Highway race at Randwick plus the Queen Of The Turf Prelude at Wagga.
