A Swan Hill family were camping on a private property near Moulamein, 100 kilometres west of Deniliquin, when the near-miss occurred.
The brothers – aged 17 and 15 – decided to go for a hunt on Easter Sunday, taking a shotgun with them.
Around 2.30pm, the shotgun was accidentally discharged and one of the boys was shot in the back and upper body, police say.
The teenager was taken to Swan Hill Hospital and treated for his wounds before being released.
NSW Police and Victoria Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the near-tragedy.
Elsewhere in the Deniliquin Local Area Command, five people have been charged with drink-driving over the Easter break.
A 19-year-old Victorian man was eventually found in Finley after allegedly leading police on a pursuit on the Newell Highway, reaching speeds of 171km/h.
The pursuit was terminated and the driver was later discovered in a Finley home, where he allegedly admitted to being the driver of the speeding car.
He was breath-tested and then taken to Finley police station, where he returned a reading of .067.
He has been charged with low-range drink-driving, not stopping in a police pursuit, driving dangerously and speeding more than 45km/h over the limit.
Another drink-driver was allegedly detected around 7.20pm on Saturday night at Hay.
The car was stopped for a random breath test on the Sturt Highway, with the driver returning a .052 reading. They have been charged with low-range drink-driving.
Sunday saw another drunk driver allegedly behind the wheel, with a a driver caught in the early morning hours.
Police stopped an eastbound driver on Harfleur Street, Deniliquin at 1.28am for a breath test.
They were later charged after returning a positive reading.
Later that morning, another person was charged with drink-driving after returning a low-range reading when stopped on Davidson Street.
