But the local group has bounced back from adversity in emphatic fashion, formally opening its new dressage arena on Sunday.
The club received $9000 of state funding for the project and Wagga MP Daryl Maguire was on hand to cut the ribbon.
President Sandra Dennis said the excitement in the air was palpable.
“There was a real buzz,” she said.
“We had four new members join us today, so on their first day they got to be a part of the opening and enjoy it with a number of existing members.”
Mrs Dennis said the club was a vital asset to the community’s youth.
“We run this club for the children so they can gain experience in all horse disciplines,” she said.
“Whether it’s show jumping, dressage, sporting events...anything to do with horses, this is where it all begins.”
