Together with his brother-in-law Darren Crutch, Mr Ewing left on the inaugural Riverina Redneck Rally with his car “Ellroy” on Saturday, from Darlington Point.
The five-day rally, which is set to arrive in Wagga on Wednesday, is raising money for Country Hope, which provides family support services to country children diagnosed with cancer.
Mr Ewing said Country Hope had supported his nephew, Darcy Ewing, now 22, who had cancer as a child.
“I’ve never been in a rally in my life but we all know someone touched by cancer,” he said.
A total of 35 teams have each raised a minimum of $2500, with each team set to take on 500 kilometres of dirt road per day.
