“There isn’t a brand name in sight,” Ms Kirkpatrick said.
“No one knows these types of champagne and none of it has been this far into regional Australia before,” she said.
But Ms Kirkpatrick, known as the Champagne Dame, said tastings were just one part of her extensive masterclass.
“I’m taking people out of Wagga, putting them in Champagne in France, and taking them back 300 years and starting right at the beginning,” she said.
“People often sip on champagne without thinking about where it’s come from, but with such a rich and fascinating history, you can’t just dive into it without the historic context.”
Ms Kirkpatrick’s passion for champagne was born after reading an article by French military and political leader Napoleon Bonaparte.
It outlined his connection with champagne, as well as much of the history behind it.
From there she opened a wine bar and read every book on champagne she could find, eventually making the trip to Champagne, France, to experience the home of the sparkling wine first-hand.
