Emergency services were called to Goldfields Way near Erin Vale, between Junee and Temora, around 10.30pm after receiving reports of a single vehicle crash.
When Wagga Local Area Command officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a Toyota Seca had crashed into a tree by the side of the road and caught fire.
The 18-year-old man, the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene.
A crime scene was established around the crash site and has been examined by forensic specialists.
Goldfields Way was closed between Burley Griffin Way and Old Junee Road for most of the night before it was reopened soon before 6am on Monday.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
